No. So long as your processor is the same form factor as the old one.

So long as you're not changing board etc.

Windows will probably not even notice if all you're changing is clock rate on a quicker chip.

Intel P4-Prescott 3.4G 800 OK

you defo wont need to reformat, though if going 32 bit > 64 bit or upgrasing substantially you would need a new motherboard

i had a gigabyte board on my old pc with a celeron 1.8. When i upgraded to a P4 2.8 i had to update the bios.

Of course when i say i did it i mean i got someone who knows what there doing to do it
