Hi all, my car is a Corsa B 1400 SPi. It's got a K&N induction kit and a Scorpion Imola cat-back exhaust which was fitted when I brought it. Anyway it's not exactly very loud at all, infact I think my mates boggo 1.2i sounds louder than my car. The exhaust note at idle is a quiet but slightly bassy rumble and its not especially loud when you boot it.
Q: How can I make it louder?!
Should I decat it? Or get a different exhaust saves pissing about refitting cat come MOT time? As I have heard stories of it not helping power and giving petrol smells a lot. I want it louder, but not SILLY raspy loud. If the exhaust was a little louder to carry on with its bassy growly tone I'd be happy but it sounds pretty gutless the higher the revs you go.
It has a HUGE silencer on it after taking a couple of pics under the car. Here's the exhaust from front to back. Any opinions on recommended action welcome. I want it to sound a little bit sporty hehe.

the reason its quiet is down to the fact you still have a cat, either a bypass or sports cat will make it louder, the noise from an induction air filter is dependent on the engine,a decent system should see you right for a decent noise

Cheers mate. I mean the system is a nice one, I dunno if it's even classed as a "group A system"?
If I decat it, is it true I have to CUT the cat out? Or can it be unbolted for refitting come MOT time if needs be?
Cheers

if you take it to somewhere that makes up systems they should be able to make you a cat bypass, you may even be able to buy one from somewhere regal, tweeks, courtenay etc.de-cat pipes are fairly common things,on my corsa it had a straight through system with just the cat and it didnt make a noise ,then after taking it out it improved the sound quality so much, was really worth it imo

Cheers mate will look into it. When you say places that make pipes up, do you mean like powerflow? Do you know if typical garages which specialise in exhaust fitment etc make pipes themselves? ive never needed to find out before now lol

If the cat needs to be cut out, it's not a big problem.
You just keep the cat and replace it for the MOT. 5 Minute job.
This is how it is on my Sport.
The bypass can be taken out, and the cat put back in using the same sleeve and clamp.

heres one we made earlier as demonstarted by Dean_w ,its a a 5 min,job to be honest its probably a bit specialist a cat bypass for typical garage, but if you just want a garage to hack the cat out and replace with a piece of pipe, about 15 mins labour itd cost you

Cheers guys I dont really wanna cut it out but dont mind paying a bit of labour to fit it if I get one at a good price... I might just call powerflow see what they think for a simple pipe fitted in

now I've been thinking about this...
What do you guys think to the fact that the silencer might be TOO big on the scorpion system? It does look massive in the pics...
I have a bog standard centre section in the shed, do you think it's worth putting that on and seeing if it's louder? Do you think I'll loose power?
Cheers

Depends what the diameter of the exhaust pipe is.
As for power loss, i'm not sure.

If you are after loud, get a powerrust or a cherry bomb. I can't see why you would want to replace a decent s/s system with a standard box. It will be a different bore for a start.

It's just seriously quiet lol.
I actually really like the system in terms of build, fitment and quality which is why I think I should just try a decat first. For what I'd get selling it second hand it'd be a shame as it's nearly new

De-cat will make it RASPY. loose the middle box and replace with straight through pipe.

Get that silencer removed with a straight through pipe from the cat to backbox. I have the very same backbox along with a straight through pipe I bought off ebay - sounds louder without the sliencer but not OTT at all.
PS: Did you DJ on Dimension FM a couple of years back?

ed, no I wont, I don't look like anything at the mo as noone hears me drive by! lol
argh i really dunno what to do, I dont wanna piss about come MOT time but it's gonna be hard to sell just a scorpion centre section lol
Scott, nah I didn't DJ on it but was sorta well known on there and knew most of the DJ's and listeners etc... However I'm still into my pirates and should be DJ'ing on Hard FM in telford soon, aswell as running and DJ'ing on one in Stoke-on-Trent with a couple of mates You used to live that way or something?
