Was a bit worried about the colour of the pistons and them being a bit dirty but go them cleaned up , but have never strpped an engine before so just wanted a second opinion on the general look of it ?

looks ok to me

just make sure you get all the torque settings right, and all the water hoses done up right

if you dont, you'll end up with a dead engine, like me

Make sure there is no water in the head stud holes. Otherwise it might crack the block.

Looks perfect mate, nothin to worry about.. As said before just check the bores for scratches etc.. Should be able to see a cross hatching effect on bores, shows its not to worn...

looks ok, check that the head and block are spotless before re-assembly, i.e no gasket or crap on them and make sure there is no water or oil in the bolt holes and no crap in the oilways before you put it all back together.

oh, use new head bolts and tighten in the right order to the right setting and if you are stripping the bottom end as well, i.e bearings etc... make sure you have plenty of oil on the rings, cams, and bearings when you put it all back together before start-up.

good work

you will be addicted to stripping engines before you know it

Put a small ammount of engine oil around the bores to wet the piston rings as you have stripped the engine down. In fact, any moving parts should be doused with oil pre-assembly for the first second or so when you turn it over as you don't want anything to be dry. Any excess will just burn off when the engine fires up... If you are taking the valves out clean them in a drill using wire wool and really wet them down with oil so they are nicely lubed too

if the engine is left over time the oil will drain back to the sump. assembly lube sticks to the parts as its more like a grease than a liquid so it wont drain back to the sump.
