Here's the story, I've got my PC upstairs and its conected to a cable modem (blueyonder), my sister has a pc downstairs, and wanted it to be conected to the net.

so my dad got a wireless router and usb card thing for the PC downstairs.

the maual isnt much help at all

conected my cable modem to the WAN socket on the router, then conected my pc to the #1 slot.

bingo all working fine, netx day worked fine. The day after that, it syas there is no ip address, and it cant repear it and when i go on my pc the net wont work. so i have to unplug the router, and just hook my cable modem straight to the computer, and i can get back on the net, but still my sister isnt conected downstairs.

went to the shop where we bought the stuff, they siad, just press the reset button on the back of the router when all the power is off, cheak all the cables are in, then power up and it should work.

tried it, and my net wasnt working, but my sisters was, on a neigbours wireless conection

any help would be much much appriciated

Is it just a simple case of having to go on the router's home page and connecting?

I have a pc and a laptop running from a 3Com router, laptop via a firewire card. Sometime's it stay's connected and other time's I have to connect via the router home page.

Because you can't access the IP address? Is the other pc still connected fine? Have you tried reinstalling the router software on your pc?

yes do a hard reset

1. Disconnect the modem from computer if it is connected and make sure the modem is connected to WAN/Internet port of the router and the computer to Port Number 1 of the router.

2. Make sure the router is ON. Hard Reset the router to factory defaults.

Make sure the router is switched ON.
Locate the reset button at the back of the router.
Use a paper clip, push the reset button and hold it for 30 seconds then release the reset button.

3. Power OFF both your modem and the router.

4. Power ON your modem first and wait for 30 seconds.

5. Power ON your Router next and wait for another 30 seconds.

Check that you are able to go online in your computer.

then go to the router setup page (normally 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.62.1 for sweex i think) and go to your WAN Mac Address option and clone it

let me know if it works...have tried on my belkin and also another friends'...worked 99% of the time

sounds like a compatibilty problem with the router and cable modem.

Had the same trouble with my bosses who is on NTL. Not sure if its the same for Blueyonder but I spoke to NTL and they said that you have to get one specifically for cable modems or else they conflict.

specific for cable modems?! as long as its a router with a wan port it shouldnt matter!

As for yours, if you've done a hard reset and you can't access the internal setup pages via HTTP, then it sounds as if the router is fooked - take it back and replace it with something else, netgear, linksys etc etc

Never heard of sweex either
