my mate has just rebuilt his X14XE.

its running nicely but the cambelt is whining as its a bit too tight?

Will it slacken off a bit with time or does he need to do something about it? Its a brand new cambelt and everything is new on the engine

It will slacken off a tad, but best just to get it slackened off now. Could cause premature snappage.

fuck knows how you over tighten it, its got a springloaded tensioner. wouldnt have thought you could do it wrong

They have manual tensioners on 16v's i think robin, turn the little tab with the hole for the alan key. 8v's are self tensioning.

mine was spring tensioned. the allen key hole thingy was to slacken it to remove the belt, but it would spring back if you took it out

Yeah but you have to wind the allan key hole back round to tension it back up. Anyway tell him to get it tensioned up properly.
