does the private reg get transferred onto the car as soon as you buy it? or does it only get transferred onto your car once you go to the dvla office?

i havnt got my new car yet but i want a private reg to put on as soon as i get it. so was wondering if i could phone up the dvla and buy the plate just now, then when i have a car, go to the dvla office with my documents?

When you get the forms through fill them in then go to the DVLA office then you can put them on.

if its still on old car u will need to go to dvla and have it transfered off that and onto ur new one u will need both cars mot and tax disks logbooks ect
