Currently using companies camera to mess around with.

Fujifilm S5500 Im probably going to buy the S5600 next month.

They have the "Wide Conversion Lens" WL-FX9B - But apart from zooming in slightly more, whats the difference??

Are you sure it zooms in more.
Thats a wide angle attachment.
All it does it gives you a wider angle.

means you should be able to get more in the frame from a closer distance

0.79mm more zoom but i'll take a picture with and without it at wkend and see!

It magnifies everything by 0.8 from the link I read (which is probably 0.79mm) but that means you get less zoom.
Try multiplying a number by something under 1.

AS 50calibre said it lets you get more in the frame without having to step back further.
Say you were standing at a fixed point, without the lens you would have say a building in the frame.
Put that lens on and you would have the building plus some more at the sides.
