They're not petrol guzzlers...but not economical, 30mpg seems about the average.

47mpg according to parkers for the 1.2 8v.
tbh they do give great fuel econemy, was great when i had mine.
i was really surprised how much more fuel i used when i got my 1.8 mondeo compared to the corsa.
plus it probs doesnt help the fact you need to redline them to keep up with traffic lol but yeah great on fuel.

1.2 8V's are great on fuel I used to get 110 miles to a £10 note, it worked out around 9p per mile, my 1.4 16V sport was good on fuel on a long run had 400 miles out of a tank in that bad boy, my VTS was shocking on fuel and so is my 206 GTi, My 205 GTi has to take the crown for worst fuel consumption it was/is truly shocking.

LOL - petrol on the 1.6 isn't too bad, you should be able to get about 40-45 miles on a £5
(based on the Sport being 36Mpg)
1.2 you should get around about 60miles on a £5
IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU DRIVE AND WHERE YOU DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(AKA If you rant the s**t out of it you aren't gonna get f**k all & if you drive through town thinking your a bad boy you will also suffer!!!)
I know a geezer who owns a BWM M3 E46 (new shape nice as you like)
He only gets 100 miles on £30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Cant believe people think the 1.2 8v is bad on fuel, if its in good nick, regular services, well maintained you can get some serious mileage out of them on even a drop of fuel.
As long as you dont floor it everywhere which is hard to do as they are dog slow when you do floor them, and even worse when you aint flooring it, but if your gentle you can get those wild claims of nearly 50mpg to come true, i know i used to, it made for cringeworthy progress but saved me a wad of cash

My 1.2 8v wasn't very economical but that is because you do have to put the foot down just to keep up with a horse and kart, never mind traffic |
