my car seems to pink/detonate at about 1/4 throttle when just cruising along, it hesitates quite badly and backfires like something mad! its a 1.4 8v hi torq one by the way..
any suggestions? the engine is standard i will also add

no EM light no, was serviced about a month ago, although the HT leads look like originals from factory, could they be the problem?

Dunno, looking in my haynes manual at what it says.

The problems thats comes under 'Engine hesitates on acceleration' 'pre-ignition (pinking) or knocking during acceleration or under load' and 'Engine backfires' is a vacuum leak at the fuel injection unit/throttle body, inlet manifold or assoctated hoses or a fuel injection system fault.

There are other ones listed, but those are the two that come under all 3.

humm, ill have a tweak at the inlet manifold tomorow, see if that works. thanks all
