I have been having this problem for quite abit now where i start the car up on a morning and it sometimes idles abit high (just over 1000 revs) and when i rev it the engine lacks power and will not rev, but keeps running. Usually when i strat it up it sits below 1000 revs and all works fine... (after leaving it for 2 or 3 minutes it's fine)
It seems to be early morning when its not really warm (say 8am) as it always seems to start up later on in the morning or afternoon. And it only does it when it has not been running for afew hours... overnight.
I very rarely rape my car or drive it hard at all.
Today while i was driving in 3rd gear at just over 3000 revs the engine was lacking power and really wasnt pushing and afew seconds later the engine management light came on so i laid off and the light went off.
It seems ok in first and second and i didnt get to check 4th and 5th
ANY IDEAS??? im confused.

after about 3 seconds or so of my foot constantly on the accelerator pedal to see if it sorted itself out it came on, then a second or 2 after i took my foot off it went off.
i thought it might have managed to pick itself up and when i saw the light come on i thought erm ok maybe i will take my foot off...

I had this on my 1.2 16v
Have you got an induction kit on it? If you have the afm might have gone, it did on mine

right i started it up today and it was abit dodgy but soon righted itself...
when i disconnected air mass meter sensor cable it wasnt having any of it... was dying when i revved it.
isnt that going to happen though if you disconnect it?
when i reconnected it and plugged it back in it was fine.
suggestions please

Emmm.....ok lol
It is normal for ur car to sit below 1k revs...infact is should be idling between 840/860 .
Just like some of the replys a thought it would be the afm. If you know somebody with a similar corsa/eninge, try switching them because tht could still be the culprit.
For wot I can gather is your car hesitating when in gear driving? i.e. struggling to make it past 3k revs in 3rd gear but will eventually rev up to the red?? if thts the case then sounds like hesitation i.e. get the timing checked.

Sounds like Mass Air Flow meter, mine did the same when it had been stood a while. Started it up and it would'nt rev up at all, just misfired and spluttered like buggary, then was fine after 5 mins of warming up. Also used to hold back at about 4,000 rpm, would'nt go over 80mph in 5th gear.
You know anyone with the same engine as you, you could borrow theirs and see if it fixes the problem, if it does you know whats wrong. The MAF off the 1.0 12v is the same one too.
