Started about 1 today when my mate finished work, had a few problems including snapping a head bolt but all in all its not gone to badly after that..
Found the culprit that is making it smoke ( check out the picture of the valve and the whole in one of them
New Head

Labelled up

Rocker cover off and lots of bits disconnected

Pulleys off

then the Head came off one bastard head bolt snapped which we had to get the grinder on, but got it out eventually
These 4 valves in the picture below are the valves from cylinder two which was low on compression.
think you can see why one has a hole in

Picture of all 16 valves

Picture of the bottom end all cleaned up

Thats it for today, will update more tomorrow

cleaning the bottom end is an arse, or so i found, you get little bits of gasket stuck on the block which just wont budge
looks like its going well though
edit: i never had trouble with the headbolts though

very interesting to see what condition the head was in. You should see quite a gain in performance with the new head on! Good work rob

probably running lean may be worth investing in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator if you dont have one already

yes, I would look at the fuelling. Not necessarily the pressure though, more likely to be specific to that cylinder so I would fit some different injectors (rob I have a spare set here that are good) get the head fitted and get it running for 100 miles or so. then take it to a rolling road place for a good check over.

he did mention cyl 1 going too, somthing definately not right and i would certainly suspect lean running..
but yeh, may be woth changing the injectors or even having them ultrasonically cleaned and tested

without a doubt id get the car mapped, its running more power than standard, even more so with the new head, wouldnt be so bad if it had an afm but you have an x16xe? so no afm?
