I was told this had to be supplied from vaux, is that right, cannot i not use any 12volt cable to link the 2 up as the other one is shredded and it wont start.

as long as it is the correct type of cable then yes, bodge one up yourself

You can make some out of some amp wire or something. Just make sure it's thick and that you solder the connectors on correctly. You'll probably need to use a blowtorch to get the wire hot enough, unless you have to correct soldering gear.

and if all that fails, i have the correct wire in my garage i think
