there not illegal to own, but to use they are! Safer getting a Sky version of them than the cable version though (cable can do checks on your boxes, where as sky can't without a phone socket).
Dont think there is a freeview version as the encryption has yet to be cracked (itv digital was though as it used weaker encryption, might be wrong though)!

you still need to get a TV subscription with NTL/Telewest (cheapest is 20 quid a month i think), but when the engineer leaves you just swap the boxes over and use the dbox - but yes, its two-way communication between the box, unlike sky which uses a telephone socket for the return/upload data.
if you have sky then i would look at getting one for that - but not sure if there still called dboxes or not (canne remember lol).
Lots of info about though if you google - they say the nokia boxes are the better ones

the 'NTL' box is not a 2-way commincation,it doesn't send back info.
they cannot check anyhting. Easiest way is to run box boxes, the NTL one and the 'NTL' one
get all the channels and also front row

so you mean, buy a sky box, but dont sign up and you can recieve non encrypted channels?
