God damm it, could have gone top lastnight Was well pissed off at the end that we had lost

Hi Guys,

Los Amigos went in to this BIG clash a little nervous but buoyed by the surprising collapse of the Coca Cola Champs 2 - 6 in the preceding game to the Bora Bora Boys. This meant that we'd be first or second regardless of the result.

The Amigos started brightly against a very well organised if somewhat physical Shellsuits. However, chances were limited to shots from distance. The first real threat from the Shellsuits resulted in a fine save from Ollie.

This gave us the confidence to push forward again & the result was a fine low drive from Marcel to open the scoring! 1-0

The goal brought Shellsuits forward. For periods Amigos could not clear their lines & struggled to distribute effectively. This created a number of half chances for the Reds but they either shot wide or mishit efforts at Ollie. Pressure was intense & we were very lucky to get away with a strong back pass from Del which sent Ollie sprawling to gather. The Referee fortunately didn't rule this as a back pass (and therefore a penalty)!

The pressure finally forced a mistake from Amigos which the Shellsuits accepted. The Reds intercepted a pass from Ollie in the centre of the pitch as he tried to hit Dave upfront. The advancing striker coolly finished to level the scores at 1-1 just before half time.

Marcel stayed on & Mick, Jay & Alan came on for Del, Dave & Gary. Although the new line up tried to move the ball up the pitch the Ref gave Mick (in the holding strikers role) no protection as he was bundled from the ball.

Chances were limited to distance shots which rarely troubled the Keepers.

Gary came back on for Mick & we started to create a little more. As time expired we won a free kick around 15yds from the Reds goal. Striking the ball passed the one marking player, Marcel hit the shot narrowly wide of the Keeper's post.

In the last minute the ball was played through to one of the bulky Red forwards on the right. Gary tried to tackle but the Shellsuit player held him off skilfully to fire a hard low shot across the diving OIlie to win the game! 1-2

The final whistle blew seconds later!

Probably not our best performance, but did you see the relieved looks on the Shellsuits players faces?

Next weeks game is against Redstar Rivermead @ 7.30pm

Review written by the team that beat us

AFC Shellsuit 2 Los Amigos 1
25/10/2006

Top verus second - 1 point in it.

Shellsuit had comprehensively beaten Los Amigos earlier on in the season - but this game proved a lot closer.

Shellsuit were with the core 7 after Sumners retirement, his shirt can be found on Ebay as we speak. Warwick was back in the team after his late night meeting last week.

Shellsuit began attacking the Thames end on pitch two and started the game brightly- The Amigos were sporting a new kit and were clearly up for the game bringing a decent support.

The opening exchanges were equal with Shellsuit testing the keeper with efforts from Forlan and Mutters. However the first real chance fell to Los Amigos who opened the scoring with a neat finish after a decent move had cut open the Shellsuit defence, Line beaten in his far right corner.

It seemed like it might be one of those days for Shellsuit as they responded brightly and had several chances- the Amigos keeper was in great form. Making great and sometimes fortunate saves from Shellsuit. Most of the Shellsuit players had at least one effort at goal, including Line.

As half time approached Evans closed down the defender and fed Mutters, his finish going through the keepers legs and into the net. Nothing more than Shellsuit deserved.

The second half was an evenly contested half, but all the chances seemed to fall to Shellsuit - the Amigos backed off and allowed Shellsuit time on the ball, remember the draw was the better result for Shellsuit.

Line was allowed to bring the ball up on several occasions and this lead to openings for Szegota, Warwick and Mutters.

As the clock ticked down The Amigos took more risks, a flowing move played Szegota in who shot inches wide. However moments later Mutters was in the same positon, his shot finally beating the keeper and giving Shellsuit a well earned victory.

A game played in the true spirit of football, made for an excellent 30 mins of football.

AFC Shellsuit: Line, Szegota, Evans, Warwick, Mutters, Forlan, O'Hannian

Goals: Mutters (2)
