Hi all. Possible problem developed on my corsa -
M (94) Sri
47k
No engine mods
when it is cold in the morning and you drive off second gear crunches into place and when the car has warmed up nicely it feels as though it just falls in instead of locking in. It doesnt drive any differently or feel any different through acceleration and when its warm doesnt make any noticeable noises. it is only 2nd gear as well, the others are fine (the usual '1st gear wont engage until you are standing still'). Going in for a service soon, depends on financials.
Comments?
Cheers

gearbox oil should be done on service but most places dont do it, thats why its always better to do it yourself. Nobody ever checks the fuel filter and oil change ( you cant tell if the oil has been changed really ).

Unless there are tell tale signs , i.e the bolt has been taken off to fill

do you find 2nd gear lumpy when its warmed up (say 15 minutes down the road for example)? like i said nothing seems to be affected, and if you put it in second and try to move the gearstick side to side (like neutral) it is solidly in place.
May sound like a stupid question, do you just top up gearbox oil or have to drain it out and then top it up again? is there a dipstick for it (like engine oil)? I would check but the GF has got the car and its 60 odd miles away
Thanks all so far

well if i start it up, within the first ten mins or so it is very hard to put it into say first gear from second, u have to bang it in quite a bit, like i say as soon as it get s a bit warmer its fine.

A tip for getting into 1st. If it won't get in i.e. you're crawling along extremely slowly, too slow for 2nd gear, then with your foot on the clutch put it in 2nd then move it upto 1st - should go in!

When changing gear in the cold it is even harder. This may make it easier

Yup, I know someone with a pre-97 and his is hard to get into 1st, have to wait till you're pretty much not moving. Going from 2nd to 1st in one movement helps though! 'Tis really annoying in my 12v though because it has to be in 1st to go slow, like in slow moving traffic, in 2nd it just labours and nearly stalls.
