To be fair on a 1.4 16v a headgasket job would be more than £200 at any garage. £1200 is a bit over the top though.

corsa are alot more, normaly about £600/700 for any other

but that is new cambelt kit, headgasket, all gaskets, waterpump, thermostat, fan switch

corsa's you get load of time to do (well the 1.4/1.6 16v anyway)

removed a head off a x20xev in a astra in less that 1.5 hours before (and 1st one i'd done)

some garages dont change cambelt etc, and would just do the head gasket

cambelt is £70 to me at staff rate (cost plus 10%) is about £100, bolts are £16, head gasket kit £50odd, thermostat is £80 (was going to get one for my car, can only get complete housing) waterpump £45 (is £35 to me)

dont forget - sparks, antifreeze, oil ,oil filter, throttle body gasket, top inlet manifold gasket, skim if needed,

all adds up

I done one on a corsa sport 1.4 16v with air con last week. I work in a main dealership and the bill care to £400. He paid for the head to come off and new valves because cylinder 4 had a burnt out exhaust valve. my service manager discounted it down to £360 though lol
