CS slang term for the bigger engine that the 1.0/1.2/1.4 and 1.6 vaux engines. IE - 2lt+
Im sure it wasn't meant in the true context of it being a chevy big block or anything remotely related

Errr, yeh, round my way, we call 2.0 engines big blocks, and 1.6's small blocks.
so big block xe, or small block xe.
thats what im talking about.

I prefer 8 valve engines personally, and thats all based on I like doing the work on my own cars and 8valve engines are ALOT cheaper and easier to work on..
!6v's aren't unreliable, just the chance of breaking down is higher due to more components to go wrong.
You get more power from a 16v but you pay more to tune it..
Pro's and con's for both..

They have the same bottom end.
Well same bottom end, but the 16 valve engines run higher compression. (Well if you are comparing a C14SE with an X14/16XE)
I prefer a 16V personally, alot more fun!

i had a 8v astra gte and a 16v cav sri, cav had a very good low milage lump in it and was quite powerful. i did abit of work to the astra head, exhaust and some other bits. was quicker than astra 16v's standard. The difference i have always noticed is 8v more low down torque and quicker responce but the 16v are much better up top. Depends what you want it for? Oh and the big thing, can tune an 8v for 30 quid!!
