managed to get php, apache and mysql working, bit of tweaking in the config files and a free online dns to get myself going, it now works, as it didnt seem to like localhost.
i've been looking at v bulletin, is it any good? i've done a demo and it seems pretty straightforward? costs 48quid a year for the license though?
Is phpBB2 just as easy to set up?

yes get phpbb2, vbulletin is a rip off, and IMO a load of crap anyway
