If your timing belt was slipping your valves would me making sweet love to your pistons. It's the belt that drives your alternator making that noise.
Just replace the belt.

Or if its still doing it, check your alternator is working properly.

You can also tighten the belt. Can't remember how but dads going to do it on mine this weekend. Sometimes during winter the belt slacks abit just needs a little more tention should solve the screeching in 1st and 2nd. That or buy a new belt.

if its a corsa b u need to remove the pipe that goes from the airbox and then u can access a nut which you can tighten or loosen in order to tension the belt. I have to replace mine cos its squeakin sometimes and doin ma head in. Its pretty straight forward may take some pics. Its quite clear to see as its directly to the right of the airbox beneath the intake pipe.
Btw i have a 1.2 8v so im basing my location on that

its just one nut lol if you cant b bothered take it to the garage although i jus got me a belt for £3 and im jus gna fit it myself. Apprently the best thing to do is leave the belt on a radiator to warm up so u can strech it on easily and so wen it cools will tighten itself up. Its nice to work on your own car.
straight head screw driver and lossen teh jubilee clips on the pipe pull the pipe off and then use a spanner to tighten or loosen the nut and taddaaa its done it is abit grimey though.

its a 13mm bolt and nut take your induction pipe off and you will see it there should be an earth strap on it aswell.sometimes the little rubber bushes go in the bracket where it bolts to the head that can cause loss of tension too.
