i think that children should be allowed to leave school if they have place in collage or universty or when they are 18 but other people have their own opiunion

Lets remember that school is NOT CUMPULSORY

The argument by John Prescott that he went to Uni despite failing his eleven + is not an arguement against but for selection

That will be from somebody who thinks they have all that 100% correct.

Kids have no chance tbh.

I don't think it's funny so much as pathetic.

Granted not everyone takes to spelling and grammar as well as the next person, but it doesn't excuse the fact that some people are downright sloppy in their speech.

Surely the author of that must know there's no "U" in "opinion". In fact most of those errors could be avoided if spelled phonetically.

It is ironically funny. But it shows the sorry state of affairs in this country, which is shameful.

Maybe they are refering to the 'post 16' part not being compulsory at the minute.

well again, you could refer that back to education and the fact they can't get their point across correctly.

There is no way that all kids should be forced to stay on at school until they are 18. Different strokes for different folks - School doesn't suit everyone.

So they want to train people up just to pass exams for another couple of years.

Brilliant.

And up here depending on how smart you are you get trained to pass exams to differing degrees.

Really useful to start you out in life.

As I well know. However part of the problem is that kids who don't thrive in an academic environment get bored and frustrated and end up going down the wrong roads.

The debate is not about staying in school, its about staying in education. That is not the same thing.

Problem is if the parents are not educated and living off benefits then the children will just follow that road. All this is going to do is keep them off the streets for a couple of years. At 18 they can claim the dole, just like their parents.

The system stinks!

In this day and age the opportunity is there for anyone that wants to go out and make a handsome wage and have the nice things in life if they have the desire.

The government up here even pay your tuition fees for you, the excuse 'my parents are layabouts with no money therefore i will be' doesn't wash.

The problem being that many young people don't actually want it.
