really facinated by moving long loads, wide loads etc

seen an amazing one the other day going 1mph the wrong way down a by pass/set of roundabouts to get onto the motorway, had 20 people stood around as they moved it ever so slowly about 1ft clearence from a lamp post

anyone got any pics, links, vids?

Theres sometimes some large loads up here at the local oil refinary........parts of plant / cooling towers etc coming in by road/sea.

seen that monster moves program they moved a grain mill on a truck, up the road took em a few months though, was amazing to see.

I saw the grain one. same episode as the Heathrow tower for terminal four, interesting to see the difference in approach. The Heathrow one had a wheeled, computer controlled platform which ensured that the load remained completely vertical throughout the journey. The grain one in America somewhere was just a load of guys hammering blocks of wood in if it looked a bit wonky.

The most impressive one I've seen on TV was the transportation of some parts for the CERN particle accelerator, had to remain perfectly level at all times, took 2 hours or so for half a kilometer IIRC.

the megastructure son the A380 would interest peopel in this thread... showed Airbus' way aroiund getting the parts from the various factories int he workd to the final plant was a challenge!

i remember when i was small they were moving a furnace from a factory to the site, and had to disconnect all the phone wires so it could move the one part down the street, police escorts and everything
