Can you not just order by ID.... obviously the newer ones will have higher id numbers............ thus it wont need ordering cos they'll already be in newest order?......... it's only when you need to chnge the order that it should slow down?

No makes no odds whether its post id or actually the date, its still 50k rows to sort. There is no way around that.
