My handbrake has a rubbish hold

i just wanted to know if someone could help me out by telling me how it can be adjusted, or what needs to be adjusted to improve its hold. Any help appreciated, Thanks.

Take the drums off, and take shoes out. Clean up with brake cleaner and a rag.

Replace shoes, adjust properly and tighten cable if needed. Most of the time the auto adjusters don't work.
