Just getting ideas for the future as I'm sure mine will need doing at some point.
Is a clutch replacing on a 12v relatively easy? i.e. don't have to take the engine out like some cars! I don't plan doing it myself at all, just wondered if there's going to be a massive cost involved when the time comes.
Rough ideas of price with new cluth?
Thanks

No engine would stay in. Price depends on the garage you take it to.

Fair enough - would just be a 1 man type garage, not a main dealer and not a chain.

Clutches arent cheap jobs im afriad - your looking at bout 180-220 - I think its a gearbox (but not engine) out jobbie!
Are you sure its' going? You can easily adjust the corsa clutch if your bite is too high or still 'holding' on? Or is it doing the thing that mine likes to do.. hold on when uve lifted off!

Of course it's a gearbox out job!

Ermmm I don't really know what you mean by that. After I've been idling for a long time, then go to pull off, there isn't much power, then a 'surge' of power lol I know it's a 12v. Someone mentioned it could be the clutch on the way out. But I thought if it was the clutch on the way out, it'd do it all the time, not when hot?

It was me that said that (i was djpowelly, changed names lol), yours does what mine does, but mine does it when you havent used the clutch for a while - such as on the motorway?
And I know... silly comment bout the gearbox out - there is a vaux engine that you can just slide it in (sort of) tho isnt there?

Hmmm that'd explain why it seems to do it when the engine is hot. Hopefully the clutch isn't on its way out.
Anyway the average person can check it without taking it to the garage?

Someone will be able to tell you how to properly diagnose a going clutch, but to be very honest (unless its a big problem), even tho urs seems to be doing something not quite right, youve got somelife in there i expect! Ill do mine when it slips... and not a second before !

What are the characteristics of the clutch slipping then?

Your right, i think there is a gearbox where the clutch can be changed without removing the gearbox.
When I had my 12v clutch changed, it cost about £210 i think and it was a gearbox out job...

but tbh is it really worth it on a 12 volt? You can get a 1.6 put in for £50 more

and then an extra £500 insuring it? Course its worth it, and how do you know the 1.6 does'nt need a clutch?

Deano, this is definatly NOT a clutch problem.
This is a known problem on the X10XE and X12XE enginers, loads of people have it.
My local vauxhall dealer has never found a cure to the fault.
To prove that your clutch is not at fault..... unplug your lambda sensor on the exhaust. The diagnostic light will come on the dash, but your car will drive without the power surge problem.

Some gearboxes have an inspection cover where the clutch can be removed with the gearbox still on...mine has one but the vaux mechanic said its more common on the older models...maybe not on the 12v's

These engines dont have a cover.
pow.... its a very common problem with these. Ive got quite a few mates with sore foreheads cos when they pull off... it resists that much that they've smacked their heads on the windscreen when the power has come back

or just sell the car and buy a 1.6?
i did, cost me £400 to swap cars (from a P reg 75k 1.4 to a S reg 48k 1.6) and an extra 150 ish (all mods declared) on insurance.
p.s. v = valves as in 12 valves. how many car manufactures would but a voltage rating on the back of their cars you numpty. it's like saying a 1.6i = 1.6 with an i-pod in it

Excellent, I didn't think it would be, even though my clutch is probably due 66k on original.
Anyway, it normally does it when I've been idling too long and the coolant/engine gets hot - normally bad after fan has kicked in. Can do it when I have only driven to the missus and waiting for her, not necessarily after a long journey.
