I know this quote may not mean much as I do not have the exact sizes but I have just been quoted £400 for a mirror finish type on the following
Porch
Little bit under the lounge window bay
Lounge
Dining Room
Kitchen
Master Bedroom
Ensuite - with some holes to be filled from old fittings
I thought that was a really good quote what do you think

That is excellent. guessing that is just a skim over the existing ceilings? even so is a very good price, any plastering work (unless you know them) is not cheap....

i thought so. The guy lives next door to my mum so he has given me a good price - i.e knocked money off but I think its very cheap considering the amount of rooms

you cant simply skim over artex; make sure that he will prep the surface properly otherwise a couple of months down the line it'll crack and fall off.
If he does prep it correctly the that price isn't just a bargain its house deal of the year

It may be his trade but check - I've seen loads of qualified/experienced plasterers make a right fuck up
Essentially; Artex is plastic based so you need to ensure a good bond with the plaster; too many just skim over the artex with no surface prep. Basically just check he's going to do it the right way
