I'm not singling out any one single console/brand here, but have you noticed how games consoles always look fairly cheap and don't blend in with other electrical/computer equipment. I'd rather they looked like hi-fi seperates do or like most dvd players. May not be as fancy but when its sat with the tv and dvd etc anyway it may aswell look the same, rather than being some elaborate plastic box.
What do people think?

I agree because I like things to sit together and look right. But I can see why they make them look like they do to appeal to other types of people.

Yeah, they need to make their consoles stand out, I just don't think they think about what they're going to look like when they are sat in someones front room!

so your telling me putting them in some fancy curved shaped box is better (for cooling, etc.) than in a small form factor case?!
I think not.

originall post said like DVD players etc. Both the 360 and PS3 get Very hot and also have large PSU and fans. Trying to squeeze this into a case the size of a DVD player would be rediculous.

the point Marc is making is why arent they just box like, so they fit in with the look of DVD players, Amps, etc. under the tele.
The reason is nothing to do with cooling or size, its plainly to do with the market they are attracting and what they prefer the look of...as you just pointed out.

Maybe they should cater for both markets then.
The PS2 looked infinitely better than the PS3, you could put it with whatever seperates you have and not notice it.
Xbox360 is white, no-one sells white hi-fi seperates.

TBH it wouldnt be hard to do a number of cases, but they mustnt see the demand for them.

Was that a hint of even the slightest wee bit of praise for a PS3 there

Doesn't fit in with any of the black, square stuff Marc means though.
Shouldn't have to change the Xbox case either, it should be black from the box.

nope thats why i got a 360. as i realised the 360 offered me what i wnated from a console.
I think the reason for the designs it to make a feature of them, as thats what the manufacturers want

i like the look of the ps3 but its massive, if it was the size of a 360 then looks wise it would be pretty much perfect.
im not bothered about the way my 360 looks and i think it looks quite nice but doesnt blend in with any other electrical equipment in my room what so ever

their selling these machines by the masses. They then cant try and design it fit with everyones home aplliances.
instead they design for trends. 360 came in white cos of the whole ipod white generation thats hit every single product over the last decade now.
i prefer the look of the ps3 to the 360.
blacks having a huge comeback when it comes to colour of appliances.
A games console is a product that lets us go places do things we can only dream of so why not package it in a futuristic way in which it stands out!
also these machines are becoming items that are taken over our living room so theres no need for another other appliances such as dvd players, etc
