Difficult to rev up,sluggish, hard to start.

Whats happening with your Col? I've just re-timed a Mk2 Golf and it was a tooth out.

Its my mk2 golf chris, erm difficult to start, stalls, cuts out if left to idle for a while. wouldnt say sluggish. Think the timings my problem??

Yeah mate, think it is the timing that is out. How did you time it? Timing Light or markings on the pulleys?

That is exactly what the mk2 Golf I worked on was like.
