Hi guys

Well the MK Indy R1 is now finished and the TVR is back after having its engine rebuild so Im thinking about getting a plumbed in fire extinguisher system on both of them - Mainly because the TVR is unreliable and made out of plastic and the MK was built by me and my mates!! Also, the bonnet doesnt come off the Tuscan easily (4 x 10mm bolts and 2 people!)

Does anyone know anything about plumbed in systems - Hows they work, how you rig them up etc etc?

Usally quite simple stu, have electric and mechanical iirc, usally 2 or more out puts from the ext itself, 1 for engine, 1 for interior etc

then a cable that is a simple pull design, that is mounted on the dash in an easy to reach place

usally the kits come with everything, and loads of pipe/cable to fit most applications

Ah right I see! That easy is it?

Think it may be a good idea - If only to put out an underbonnet fire cos like I say, Id never get th bonnet off!

Manually activated one would be my preference.

How does the MK indy go in comparison to the tvr?

Yeah, I agree actually!!!

MK Indy is 475kgs and 150bhp so 300ish bhp per ton, the TVR is 400bhp+ and 1050kgs so 400ish per ton. You get more of a sensation of speed in the MK for obvious reasons - Both cars get to 60 in under 4 secs but after 70 or so the Tusc has got it, Id say the Indy is about 9-10 seconds to 100 while the TVR is around 8. Love the 15k limiter and seqential box on the MK tho! Handling wise - Not driven the MK enough to give an honest answer, Im guessing it will be as good as the TVR if not better as the TVR can be a handful at the best of times - One thing I did find interesting tho was that I had a look on the Top Gear board the other day and to say the Tuscan isnt supposed to handle well, it was right up there - Was just a standard 360bhp model too, not even an S or a Red Rose!!!

Jesus that's suprising, would've thought it'd be well further down the list given the fact the cars above and below it are meant to be SUPERB handling and are the sort of best in there category

Yours is around 400bhp+ also now isn;t it?!

Must be nice having a hand in 2 sub 4 second cars sounds like the little indy will probably rip a little tight track up and btw 15k limiter and sequential box

Usual chocolate internals on the early engines! It had already had finger followers and cams replaced at 8,000 miles by TVR too.

It started when I removed the cats, the car got a bit smokey (obviously the cats were catching the oil that was being burnt) and it started using a LOT of oil (5 litres in 1000 miles) Anyway, it was the valve stem oil seals that had gone and while it was having it done I went for a full rebuild with balanced rods, crank and pistons etc - Pretty similar to this one but obvioulsy needed a few extra bits http://www.tvrpower.co.uk/sp6.RR.php

Fingers crossed it should be spot on now too and Dom at TVR Power who rebuilt it has even offered a two year warranty on all his rebuilds - Reckons I wont have another problem with the engine due to the uprated internals and research that has gone into it.

RX was that price too! at least you have piece of mind now, ok mabe a sore bank account but its all in the name of fun!

Its just one of them things - I budgetted to fix it when I bought it really and getting half the cost from the warranty made it easier to swallow too!

You dont buy a car like that and no expect to have to spend money on it!!!

can pick the extinguisher kits up cheap on ebay sometimes, but be warned that some of the pipe work will/may be the wrong length
