started my car up yesterday and it was really screeching i thought it would go away, so i left it for a minute and then it started smoking, i think it was somewhere near the timing belt or something,
does anyone know what it could be and how much it would cost?

alternator belt rubbing against something? alternator bearings collapsed and jammed so that the belt is rubbing round the pulley without turning the alternator?
