Looking at doing the brake callipers on my Mini Cooper!! Sent it to the bodyshop as I thought it would look good in the same colour as the car (electric blue) but got a phone call saying the callipers would need taking off, primered, sprayed, baked, etc, etc and the price kept jumping up and he also said id have to take the callipers off!! Im not mechanically minded and wouldnt know where to start with regards taking the callipers off!!

Im now thinking about doing them myself but dont think Il be able to do them in my cars colour, so now am thinking about Silver or Black!! Do the callipers need to be removed to be painted, or can I easily do them while there on the car, and are there any parts on the callipers which I should avoid touching with paint??

Cheers

You can leave the calipers on the car, just be careful you don't paint the pads, pistons etc.

Paint them the same colour as the car.

The bodyshop I use said he would need to take them off the car, as he couldnt get to some areas!! I could get them taken off at work and leave the car on the ramps until there done, would he need to mask anything off on the callipers, or just spray the whole lot??

I've painted 3 sets of calipers, and never had to remove them. Don't spray them, paint them.

Smooth blue Hammerite is nearly that colour, if you get some of that, and maybe some smooth silver, mix them bit by bit til you achieve a close match to your car, then paint it on.

Should be slightly metallic and match the colour of your car.
