Took my car to a tyre/exhaust place for an MOT - idea was id get the exhaust replaced which I knew would fail at the same time. Anyway it failed needing welding done to the front subframe, I got it done in the week & booked in for a re-test today.

Took the car in this morning for the retest & they tell me the MOT Ramp has broke down & they will need to take my car to the next town to get it done.......fine I say, just let me know when its done.

Just had a phone call saying i'll need to go to local branch to pick up my car once its brought back (Doesnt even know if its been done yet...passed or anything), & pay for the exhaust there then go to branch in the next town & pay for the retest

I thought you got a weeks grace to fix a MOT failure & get it re-done for free

Also im using my petrol for 2 runs into another town because there ramps broken

Is it just me or are they having a giraffe

Retests no longer have to be free, as said.

retests are only free if the car failed on minor items ie light, tyres etc

anything else can be charged up to half the full test fee but after 10 working days a full retest must be done meaning a full fee again.

Result, Had to go to the branch in the other town............10min drive, to get the new certificate as thats where it was tested - fair enough!!

Paid a tenner for the retest, which he said is the lowest they can charge. He then took £35 off the price of the already discounted exhaust & only charged me £120 Happy with that tbh, its not their fault the ramp broke & im sure if it was a small garage where that happened there would be no option but to cancel the test

So thumbs up for quick-fit....they pulled out the stops to test my car & saved me some money while doing so
