I have a spare set of 20XE pistons. They are the early type and therefore they are the Mahle forged ones. Would they be of any use to anyone in a different block, or can you only use them in the block that they came out of. They have apparently only done about 80 thou miles and are in good condition with no uneven wear or scrapes on them.
I seem to remember reading some stuff to say that if you gave the block a hone and used new piston rings you shouldn't have too many issues, but I just want to verify that info.

Second hand pistons are fine.
Like you said aslong as you have rehore the block and get new rings (make sure you gap them all) they will be 100%

Good stuff. I think I shall use these pistons then as opposed to some new ones as they are probably better pistons than the replacement ones I would get from Vauxhall

In my knowledge no, they were cast and made by a different company. Like the heads stopped being made by Coscast and then made by that other company.

some of the late heads though were coscast. on my cam retainers 95 is stamped implying it was made in 1995: a late one. vaux told me that all there xe/let pistons were forged mahle items

Your engine is a LET though, they all had Coscast heads on them.
The oversized pistons you are getting are different to those used on the original engines.
