Every now and again this message pops up:

Window Virtual memory minimum too low

What does this mean , what's causing it and how do I fix it?

Thanks

yeah go for an upgrade, memory is cheap as chips at the moment anyway, and you'll see a massive difference going up to say, for example a gig of RAM

ok, how do you add new ram to the computer and does it need to be specific to the computer, eg same make?

Will everything stop being slow once it has been added?!

Thanks a lot for your help

if you look in your machine you should find something that looks similar to this:

but remember it may not be exactly the same as fittings change etc. you'll need to buy the same kind of memory otherwise it plain won't fit in your machine. if you can get a picture up we can tell you what kind you'll need

i forgot to ask, it is a PC and not a laptop you're using?

it's an e machines computer with windows xp.

Is this ram something you loads, like a program or an external thing?

its hardware that needs fitting, but its literally seconds of work and very much worth it, especially if you're trying to run xp on just 256MB of RAM.

would a shop e.g pc world fit it?

is it full up with work and music and things or is that a different type of memory?

no you're thinking of your hard drive.

PC world may fit it but you're likely to pay through the nose, might do alittle better going to a small business as they're more likely to take on the upgrade work. also ask them to do it there and then, shouldn't take them long to put an extra stick in etc.

obviously the cheapest way is to do it yourself, but if you aren't confident a shop shouldn't charge you too much to do the work

You definatly dont have enough ram for todays day and age of programs.

How old is your computer btw? you may struggle to get the correct ram, also it might just be wasted money.

You can help things speed along and reduce that error message by closing any uneeded programs down, also any progams that are running in your bottom right task bar.

Use this to help and pin point what ram you need. Then scour other sources to buy like ebay, ebuyer etc...

Ive just added 2GB of RAM to the computer at my parents as it had 2 256MB modules.

Made such a difference and is a piece of piss to do. Cost me £60.
