My mate bought a 106 a while back and he has just found out that it was a cat c write off, seems to have been fixed pritty well, but he was told it did not pass a VIC test what is a VIC test? hes woried that he may have to get rid of his car. any help?

basicaly checking it's been fixed properly, also without stolen part's etc etc etc

Check the DVLA website, its only an identiry check for the vehicle, chassis numbers etc etc

VIC test is mainly about around checking the car's identity (not a ringer/stolen) as said above its not a test of how road worthy the car is, so if it has failed Id be very worried.

No. The VIC is standard for any Category C car. If it fails it, the car is assigned a Q plate. You can't get an MOT, or tax or the logbook for a car that's got a VIC marker against it and hasn't actually had a VIC.

Basically, if it's got a legit logbook and he can MOT and tax it easily then it passed it's VIC.

Then it's passed. It should say on the logbook if it's a Cat C, something along the lines of "This car was significantly repaired or rebuit on [date]". The DVLA won't issue the logbook until it's had it's VIC if it's a Cat C. Cat D won't require the VIC, maybe it's a Cat D?
