we were on the motorway yesterday and the speedo was workin fine when all of a sudden it went down to 10 which is 0 on cable driven speedos i unscrewed it from the gear box when i got home and took it out of the dash nothing looked wrong so i plugged it back into the dash then i screwed it back on to the gearbox and the thread on the gearbox snapped now what ? sorry about the essay

Thats what the cable screws onto, not the gear box. Just get a new one.
Infact i have one spare if you want it?

Its bolted into the gearbox with one 10mm bolt
