hi, my 1.4 sport developed as tendency to rev at 4k so i though it was the idle control, so i went to the garage who did the diagnostics and said, yeh ok its the vavle, so they replaced it only to find after 30 mins it was revving again, having booked another auto sparky they said that the manifold n stuff may need a cleaning, so they did that and it still reved its wee head off. they are now saying they need to clean something else a bit more and if it still does it i may need an ecu, is this correct? and roughly how much is a 1.4 16v ecu

thanks

Not cleaned, just replaced mate, Think they're around £100.

Got mine done through vauxhall for £80 though.

sounds like a problem with the map sensor to me, or your throttle position sensor is shorting, fooling the ecu into thinking the throttle body is fully open.

The lads asking for help, is there any need to act like arseholes? Does it make you feel bigger becase you have premium membership?

pete_macari just ask on FCN, you will get a answer from there no problem, this isnt the kind of site to ask technical information, majority dont have a fucking clue and are more interested in making there cars all look the same.

There is no need to degrade everyone on the site so much, jumping on the "they all make their cars look the same" bandwagon. jesus christ, dont like it fuck off

Take it to vaux mate, you may pay a bit more than a local garage, but at least they can sort it or locate the probem. Even if you just ask them to tell you whats wrong, you can then locate the part / parts needed, then go to a local garage to fit them, or do it yourself to keep costs down etc.

Who am i degrading like? And what bandwagon? I was just making the point that this site is generally useless for getting technical help or information as it is mainly focused on looks of cars, very few members with a good level of technical ability that i would actually trust there advice.

sounds like it could be an air leak to me on the inlet.

the x14xe's dont have an airflow meter iirc, it could be the throttle position sensor on the throttle bod causing it, or again, just because you have changed the idle control valve does not mean that it is not dodgy still
