I wouldn't recommend thicker oil as its harder to get up to the top of the engine.

On my VTR i used 5w 30 fully synthetic same millage and found it to be better

The VTR is prone to tappet noise you can get them adjusted but it will only start all over again

engine flush (good on engines with a few miles, helps clear crapped up parts like egr), new oil filter and some good 10w-40 (castrol gtx, or magnetec if you're a brand hore)

70k isn't a lot of miles these days.

Engine flush only flushes the crap from where the oil goes. Pump, oilways etc.

Theres a few horror stories about engine flush. Best bet is do an oil change with cheap oil, then run for a little bit, then drain and put in your good stuff.

Aye, thicker oil is deceiving. Will also take longer to warm up.
