Iv got someone interest in the number plate on my car, he owns a porsche 911 and my nmuber plate starts with P911.
What im wanting to know is, can i sell my number plate seperately or do i have to firstly buy it off the dvla?
Also im looking to buy a personal plate off newreg.com but my car is a 96 and the plate im after is a 98. So could i get away with paying for the transfer seeing as i cant actually put it on my car?
Thanks

You could buy the plate and put it straight onto retention.

I'm pretty sure you already own the plate that comes with the car so wont have to buy it, just need to pay the transfer fee to get it on his car? Ring the DVLA tomorrow

It 'belong's to the car, so as you own the car you can transfer the plate off.
Retention costs a yearly fee (that escapes me) IIRC. The relevant fees for transfer would be included in the sale price anyway, I'd hope.

So all there is in the process is him with some cash and an £80 transfer fee?

have a look on your v5, it will more than likely say "non transferable" next to your reg, if it's the reg that came with the car.
Don't think you will be able to do it without buying it off the dvla somehow, then you will need a new mark for your car also.
