Stupid french crap! Just before i'm due to trade it in it has gone all french on me and decided to make a funny noise!
Just driving along and it starts making a howling type noise coming from near the gearbox....press the throttle down and it stops..back off the throttle..all good...then starts again then just continues like this.Sounds kind of like when your using a mag drill and drilling through a really thick piece of metal.
Dosn't happen until i've been driving for a bit.It seems to be the box so i'm changing the oil at the weekend and fingers crossed.
Any ideas?? I can't be arsed going on saxo sites

My mates polo did this... It lasted about 500 miles before it went bang (the box).
Change the oil and trade it in sharpish...

Cheers Phil
Just been out in it again and the noise stops when you stab the throttle but after about 15 seconds comes back again

Could be the engine idling too high?

if its the clutch release bearing this wont help at all, you say it goes away when you put your foot on the clutch and comes back when you release the clutch, does the noise increase in pitch when you rev the car?

Nooooooo man not the clutch...The throttle.
It dosn't make any noises until your driving for about 15 minutes so that must indicate things need to warm up/expand until it starts. Then it just strats 'howling' like a wind tunnel noise.I'm an engineer so i should have worked out it was a bearing of some sort
When you stab the throttle it goes then after 15-20 seconds or so it comes back under normal driving.
Trust me for it to happen now
