Digital is just the type of signal they receive, i.e. analogue or digital.

I think what you mean is:

'What is the difference between a plasma tv and and LCD tv?'

I disagree and thats from experience of BOTH, I got a 42" Samsung Plasma and the picture wasnt that good, I was fed alot of bollocks in the shop about it being much better than LCD when watching footy etc. Wasnt impressed with it at all and then it broke within 2 months and got it replaced with a 42" Philips LCD TV, much better TV in terms of picture quality.

Got to agree with that, got a 42" 5 year old Sony Plasma and a 46" Sony Bravia HD LCD in the house, plasma is by far a better picture and better TV to watch IMO

LCD for the win

Plasma only last about 3 years due to the plasma gas inside leaking etc and LCD much clearer picture

CRT ftw! seriously

but, when youre making the screen size bigger the pixels on LCDs are stretched so much, the picture looks awful. even the sony rep said sony is really only concentrating on the HD market now, cause thats the only place LCDs really perform, and, yes theyre awesome on HD. but, theyre way behind Pioneer and Panasonic in the market of big screens, as they both only make plasmas in bigger screens

in fact Pana now do a 37" full HD LCD, but even that doesnt perform as well as the non-1080 plasma 37"...

one of the main advantages of plasmas is that they have a faster refresh rate than LCDs...

you must be comparing the worst plasma ever made with a 100Mhz LCD

one of the sales lines we actually use is "plasmas are much better for watchin sports..."

at the end of the day it just down to personal preference. but after staring at TVs for 9hrs a day for over a year, i have come to the conclusion that plasmas are better... but yeah LCDs will eventually catch up. if HD comes in big time, and they can produce them cheaper than plasmas then they could easily take over

btw i own an LCD

what a load of shite, they last just as long as LCDs.

Contrast ratios are a little better than LCDs, but LCDs are slowly getting there. The only thing Plasmas are really good at is displaying a Standard Def picture - resolution isn't as high, therefore doesn't have to be upscaled as much as if it was an LCD display. So like said, if you're planning to get a 42"+ and will be watching a lot of Standard Def then plasmas usually offer the better picture.

Only real downsides to a plasma is that they weigh a ton, use a fair amount more power than an LCD and they aren't too hot running anything higher than 720 High Def.

If i was planning to buy a 42" for watching SD and DVDs then i'd settle for a plasma, if i was going to watch a lot of High Def and playing consoles/pc on the display then i would get an LCD display.

But go read a load of decent forums, Avforums or mags, what cinema etc. I certainly wouldn't be listening to us lot on a corsa forum
