I dont know the exact weight, but 2 motors in a wing mirror are 100% going to be a fair amount heavier than a couple of little plastic mirrors.

Mirrors on track. Er... yes you need them. I prob use the central rear view more but definitely need them.

Ah no way, I definately have had that sort of interest! I stripped all the interior out of my corsa and even some of the sound deadening to make it lighter, and there was a slightly noticeable gain in performance.
But I cant see the wing mirrors saving enough weight to make it worthwhile. I seriously doubt any sort of wing mirror weighs even 1kg let alone 5kg! If you are that intent on saving weight and the car is intended for track use, why bother with wing mirrors at all?

It won't make your car faster, but it'll go round bends easier, will use less tyre wear while cornering etc.

Most important part would be, is there actually enough mirror to see whats behined you? If they have a good viewing area, are easy to fit, and weigh less, go for them.

It will also "slightly" help reduce drag as well.

And why use mirrors on a track use car? Seriously, do you really need to ask that question, commen sense alert?

Just buy them!

Do you need some carbon sheet for base plates?

I should have some left over... or you could buy a bit off Ebay.

106 door mirrors weigh 2.5kg each, i'm pretty sure the mirror & base plates i have dont even weigh 1 kg.

Dave - aye, some carbon sheet will be good. I'll need to get some anyway, but if you have some cut off of useful size

On this note(ish) - would be interested to know how much a stripped out version of my astra weighs.

It's a heavy bitch cause it's full of electric gubbins and airbags everywhere . I recon there's an easy 200kg to be unleashed before going mad with the carpets and headlining etc.

a 200k loss in mine knocks the bhp/tonne up by just under 30 brake .
