in the new year im going to be looking at getting some spacer brackets made up to run 288mm v6 discs on 2.0 16v calipers. may even try and sort it so 305mm discs can be used off an astra coupe. need to get some spacer brackets mocked up and then i can work out what its going to cost for the machining work. probably going to be looking at around £100 for redrilled discs and the spacer brackets. i can supply 2.0 calipers and v6 pads for extra but it would probably be cheaper to find some yourself. just need some feedback on anyone who would be interested to see if its worth doing and see what price i can get on discs.

thing your on about the spiggot rings tbh. cheers for reminding me as a set of these would be needed to fit the v6 discs as well.

well at the moment i have a set of courtenay spacers on to run a 300mm hispec disc with the 2.0 calipers and they feel fantastic. a lot stronger braking but without the spongyness of the v6 caliper.

not a clue mate. need to get off my bum and sort something out. i need to get some brackets mocked up and then see what my boss can do on having them machined. tbh i dont have a clue what kind of cost it is for machining work but probably looking about 30-40 depending on how many i get made. the v6 pads fit in the 2.0 calipers so you would only need the brackets and some calipers.

so v6 calipers would 100% fit and work? just being different sized calipers wont for thought they would fit

i put some v6 pads in mine as the 2.0 ones were not covering all the disc. i thought i would of had to do a bit of bodging but they fit directly in

300mm hispec ones. cost me £140 just for the bloody rotors. bit pissed off tbh as i think i have warped them by not bedding them in properly when i fitted the v6 pads

Yep i have the 308's on mine, Thanks for reminding me about the spigots, i never did get round to buying some, But the do stop a treat, i have the v6 calipers to and they go str8 on and so do the discs when drilled to 4 stud,

So with V6 callipers off a Vectra, which come as standard with 288 mm discs, you can use 308 mm Astra GSI discs?

good idea but the size of the disc isnt the most important factor with brakes its the calipers clamping force, good for looks, not so good for performance.
if you have a 300mm disc you would want a bigger pad with a bigger caliper with more pistons to increase clamping force, the only thing a bigger disc will do is give a longer sweep for the pads to allow the disc not to get as hot as a smaller disc but in reality nobody gets their brakes hot enough on the road, a good brake pad with a smaller disc will have more effect than an average pad with a bigger disc.
Theres loads of info on compbrakes website about disc size and design, their best selling vaux kit is the 256 4 pot kit, they didnt get any gains from a bigger disc, even for rallying use.
