anyone any ideas? thought it was thrust bearing,, but its weird, when u put the clutch in the noise goes away, sounds like a straight cut box??!! really loud. is it diff bearings?

would it not be a clutch problem or a gear selecter touching something it shouldnt

A mates box did this on a polo. Used to whine like fuck when he was slowing down. He topped up the GB oil, and it sorted it out for a bit.
Went bang evenutally though, and needed a replacement box.

I thought i had the same problem as you mate but it turned out to be the bearing on my alternator. which caused it not to charge the battery properly, and threw up low voltage eml codes for various sensors every now and again.
