Hi all! Paolo's girlfriend here!!  Got my driving test on Friday, and was looking to get either a vw or a rover 25 (I've been learning in an MG)....but Paolo persuaded me to get a Corsa! Anyway....Just bough an N reg Sport this aft...mint condition....took Paolo and my bro to have a look at it with me (I know NOTHING about cars yet since I haven't had one!!) and they both thought it was fine....When I've just gone out now and fired it up its making a whooshing sound, and it gets louder when you press the clutch in ....anyone got any ideas? Help would be much appreciated....Don't think It'll be head gasket or timing belt as these have both been changed....

the release bearing sounds like it could be worn

yeah, thought it cud have been that but doesn't that only make a sound when you press the clutch in? mines doin it quietly with the clutch, out, then louder when you press it in......does it need sorting straight away and any ideas of cost??

first thing to check is release bearing, but by what your saying, it could be gearbox whine. try taking it for a drive and see if it does it in gear worse, then check the oil level of the gearbox, mine had a whining but was sorted with a oil change.

when my bro took it for a test drive, it didnt do it any worse when it was revving...Oh dear, I'm really clueless..hope I haven't bought a duffer!! Can't test drive it..don't have my test till friday and paolo's fully comp wont cover it cuz he hasn't had his license long enough. Does 800pounds for a mint condition 1996sport with 67k and service history with 2 lady owners sound too cheap?? have i been done over?
