Can some other people try doing some download tests on this site, i dont think it's working properly. I'm on an 8mb BT line. Done 3 tests on different servers and get...

15mb You're lucky, my 8mb broadband only gives me 5.5mb

I have a number of torrents on the go and i seem to be sitting arund 230kB/s.

I know torrent speed varies on the seed but, downloading from download.com or other decent sits is still get capped around 230kB/s.

Try the thinkbroadband speedtest or another speedtest and see what you get.

search for BT SpeedTest in google and try BT's one, it takes ages and doesnt always work

My speedtest.net one, im also on 8mb BT, with a line speed limited to 6mb



Thats the fastest its ever been in 6 months for me, usually its hovering 3mb

edit - trying the realtime downloading speed, it is 475kb/s from a UK based 1000mbit gamershell server, thats a normal speed i get even when i have an indicated speed of 3mb

torrents aren't a good way to measure it and like steve says, your ISP could be throttling torrents anywho.

i would try and download something of a uk mirror, like a game demo - leave it for a few minutes and see what you get (and then just cancel it etc) - something like > THIS <. Although it's from virgin's uk mirror servers, so it might not give you 100% reading but certainly a lot better than torrents

you will only get something as fast as the source is willing to give it to you.

try and download a program or game demo from a uk source.
