Going from a 165/65 14 tyre to a 185/55 15 tyre will give you an increase of 15.24mm in height (diameter), so the car will sit 7.62mm higher on the 185/55 15 tyre than it would with the 165/65 14 tyre.

I doubt you could tell the difference by eye TBF

Marc, what would the width be on the 55 tyre?

Would it be 185 as Robin said, or 195 as the Astra Sport wheels came with as standard?

it doesnt matter about the wheel size, whta is important is the width of the tyre.

the profile in this case 65 is the percentage of the width. ie you tyre wall (profile) is 65% of the width....

14 wheel with 165/65
or 15 wheel with 165/65 will be 1 inch larger in circumference

i had 165/65 14 now have 195/45 15

use this to help

Oh right, thanks techno people

Erm, dont know the size of the wheels.
Yes it is the ones that are on my astra CDX/etc alloys.

All i know is that they are 55 15' Eagle F1's

Im trying to picture if my car is going to be tractor-fied or not when i get my new wheels on
Shouldnt rub either lowered -about 35mm will it?

You need to find out if it's a 185/55 15, 195/55 15 or 205/55 15 really, it's impossible to say if they'll catch otherwise.

the 185 will have the smallest tyre hight, and the 205 will have the biggest, if all 55 profile..

the 185 would probably be best in term's of look's from the side, as the tyre hight would look as big

205/55 15 (as you find on a Calibra/Cavalier) would be 1.5" bigger than the tyres you currently have, they'd look crap, they're also 40mm wider than the 165s, so they might catch on full lock.

195/55 15 are an inch bigger, so they'd still be crap.

You could get a new set of half decent 185/55 15s for £140, which would be fine.

Basically Marc, the 55 or 65 is a percentage of the width.

so, in this case, the 55% of 185-205 differs from 101.75 mm up to 112.75.

The larger the number, the bigger the profile of the tyre will be, and the more chance of them catching.

However, in the same case, a bigger tyre will fill the arch more.

You should really get 195/45/15 tyres if you are renewing them, but if not the 195/55 that should be on there should also be ok.

Check my garage for the difference in 185/55 and 195/45 though

Because the sidewall measurement is a percentage of the width - so if the width gets wider, the height gets higher as well.

Ah right, thats cool. Thanks tom.

All i need to renew out of the 5 tires is one Eagle F1 ***/55/15 seeing as all the others are fine.

Cant really afford to buy 4/5 new tires atm so these will have to do
