I was tootling along the motorway today, had my foot planted while I passed a big truck (ive got issues of sitting next to trucks on Mways) anyway next thing ive got steam pissing out from the bonnet & my coolant warning thingy flashes up. I pulled over & the top rad coupling had blown right off & spewed the coolant. Bearing in mind that the rad was replaced about 6/7 weeks ago but ive done some 2500 miles sinse then. Bodyshop that repaired the car advised to have VW carry out a pressure test

Blocked radiator - its brand new - car runs at correct temp etc.
Head Gasket - bloody hope not!
Thermostat - It runs at correct temp.
Air Lock - possible but id have thought unlikely

New rad is the telltale

could be an airlock in the coolant system

I would bleed the system first. I shit my self first, might have shit in it? I know it was a new rad but might had swarf of something inside it i dont no.

If it were a block tho, your temp would have hit the roof (mine did in the bravo). Was fine after i flush it, refill never had any probs since!

If headgasket gone surely would run ruff?

But you sed the temp gauge was fine? Sure it works yer might be pump then!

I think they didnt put the pipe on right, if its sitting at the right temp then I cant see there being a problem with the thermostat or pump

na...

we used to get this on the impreza....

Started with just bunged up pipes (just silty deposits)... the rad cap would bubble over.

Then it came to a head by splitting the end cap of the rad.
