i had some work done on my car at my local garage (which is a very good garage) they say my car won't pass an mot because of it having no cat, the engine in it is a 20seh so is it the age of the car or the engine that counts?

It's the engine thats in the car.

wont need a cat even if its not registered as a 2.0 as the mot goes on the engine code on the engine in the car
