how much difference would it really make if the flow was the opposite way to normal

I assume this is hypothetical? The pump would be having to work a greater amount due to gravity for starters, plus you will only reverse the flow by changing the piping as the engine turns clockwise when viewed from the cambelt end.

im on about if a different engine was to be fitted with a different waterflow. would it just overheat a lot?
