I could take us all on an AWSOME drive up past Ambleside and through some gorgeous hills to Whitehaven. Hardknott pass and Ryhnose pass. Amazing to drive over, challanging, fun, exciting and an amazing day out!
Anybody fancy it??
A few piccy's of what's in store!!

those roads look ace imo we should leave it til the summer, like on sunday we hardly got a chance to do any driving as it got dark pretty early, just think about those long quiet summer evenings, we could spend one on there. maybe even have a camp over somewhere because for some people its abit of a trek, not too bad for me but you boys from wales and sandbach ( ) its abit of a mission. just an idea

It is a bit of a trek yeah totally agree but I wasn't thinking about a meet, this was just an extra so to speak. (just for a drive)
I've driven the road a few times and no of a few good places to stop and have a BBQ maybe??
There's a gorgeous stream with a bridge I've jumped off, 25ft to the water and the waters crystal clear, 22ft deep! You can see the bottom like its only ankle deep! That place on a summers day is paradise and would be perfect for a picnic/photoshoot! Its next to a place called "Boot"
I'd say fuel wise a 2ltr corsa's going to drink £30- £40 from Preston. That's the round trip of course.

Just worked out how far it is......
The route is as follows;
From the Shell at Deepdale in Preston, up the M6 and across the A591 to Ambleside
Across the scenic countryside over Hardknott and Rhynose Pass' to Boot
Past the Eskdale minature railway and on to Whitehaven
From Whitehaven its either drive back the way we came or go north to the A6 and across to the M6 then back down to Preston.
Either way back isn't much difference on mileage but the motorway would be kinder on juice
The return trip from Preston is approximately 200 miles so I would guess about £40 fuel should cover that (depending on car and cost at time)
£20 in my guzzling French Paxo easily gets me 110 miles

How does the 30th March sound???
Give people time to save up the fuel money, and arrange car sharing and passengers etc. And we can then talk about it at the April meet. I'm thinking before April then we've more chance of getting a fine day and not a showery one.
I'm like MattK, go for drives like this most weekends and nights anyway. Always exploring around in the wilderness lol. Ended up in Hawes when it was snowing, thats a mission and a half in 6" of snow!

Mmm, not sure my seats'll be in by then. I think I'll have to see what moneys like, or just see how much petrol I've already used in the month and see if I can get away with using some more

That the road from Hawes to Thwaite?? No we didn't venture that far. We'd never been on any of the roads, had no idea where we were and it was about 1.30am when we got to Hawes. Not to mention pitch black (obviously) and everything being covered in 6" of snow!! Happy times...
We do that kinda stuff all the time! Just set off in a direction and go down any road that looks good that we've not been down. Who needs maps? You can't get lost and if you do.... well thats the idea! Might have to take a trip over Buttercups, looks good!
